You can buy the filter with the entire screw cap separately as a spare part and this can also be combined with other Hydrapak products with the same dimension on the cork. Avoid taking water from bodies of water with still standing water and cloudy contents as much as possible. Do not take surface water and, if possible, choose water a bit out from the shoreline.

Katadyn BeFree Filter 1.0 L Tactical, a 0.1 micron filter

The purification takes place with 0.1 microns precision, which means that protozoa is reduced by 99.9% and bacteria by 99.9999%. The filter itself can handle up to 1000 litres of water purification. If you only purify clear water, the filter can purify more and it can handle less if you purify cloudy water. Cleaning the filter if re-inserted is done through so-called "EZ-Clean advantage"which means having water in the bottle and shaking it vigorously. Alternatively, you can unscrew the filter and dip it in water and "swish" it hastily from side to side in the water. Then the debris will come loose and you can continue to purify water again. The filter should never be rinsed horizontally under a tap as it may destroy the filter.
